SUPERLIT Preferred for Major Drinking Water Project in Malta

Aug 14, 2018

SUPERLIT has signed with SUPERLIT for a potable water project that will use large diameter glass fibre reinforced pipes (GRP) to be installed in a tunnel linking the Ta' Qali Group reservoirs with the Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plant at Pembroke. One of these lines will be used to supply high quality blended water to the central part of the island, mainly through a gravity-fed transfer centre.

Through this project, the island is guaranteed better service, more efficiency and environmental performance. As well as being a first for Malta, the pipes will also be a first for Superlit in Malta. A total of 14 kilometres of pipes and fittings are planned to be supplied under the project.

At the signing ceremony, which was witnessed by Mr Joe Mizzi, Minister of Energy and Water Affairs of Malta, the Minister stated that this project is an important step for the development of the water sector in Malta and the country's infrastructure.

Richard Bilocca, CEO of Water Services Corporation, explained that this ambitious project will not only provide Malta with better quality water but will also improve environmental performance, saving electricity and tonnes of CO2 per year.

This project is managed by the Water Services Corporation and financed by European Union funding.
